In the heart of Pompano Beach sits a gem of Southern flavor and hospitality—South Bar & Kitchen. Madeline and Madison had the pleasure of sitting down with Mike Linder, the visionary and owner behind this culinary hotspot, to delve into his journey and the inspiration behind his latest venture.

A Local Journey
Mike Linder's story begins right here in Fort Lauderdale, where he was born and raised. With a strong connection to his roots, Linder chose Broward County as the canvas for his culinary dreams. His journey started with Silver Lining, a catering and restaurant concept, followed by iconic establishments like Jet Runway Cafe, YOT, Canyon, Rio's, and now the new hotspot Val+Tino.
The Birth of South Bar & Kitchen
When asked about the inspiration behind South Bar & Kitchen, Linder shared his recent ties to Pompano Beach, where Silver Lining was based. Encouraged by the city's growth and potential, Linder saw an opportunity to pioneer what is now fondly known as "Old Town Pompano," formerly Mullet Alley.
Southern Roots
The concept for South Bar & Kitchen was a culmination of Linder's passion for Southern cuisine, influenced by his travels to cities like New Orleans and Charleston. Drawing inspiration from acclaimed eateries like Yardbird, Linder crafted a menu that pays homage to the rich flavors of the South. Executive Corporate Chef Kelly O'Hara joined forces to bring this vision to life, showcasing signature dishes like Fried Chicken & Shrimp and Grits.

Connecting with the Community
Pompano Beach was not just a location but an integral part of the concept. Linder wanted South Bar & Kitchen to resonate with the local community—hardworking blue-collar workers and families, the backbone of Middle America.
An Inviting Atmosphere
Stepping into South Bar & Kitchen, guests are enveloped in a welcoming atmosphere that reflects Linder's dedication to service. The restaurant exudes Southern charm with a contemporary twist, making it a favorite spot for locals and visitors alike.

Looking Ahead
With just over a year since its opening in May 2023, South Bar & Kitchen has already become a culinary destination. Linder's long-term vision includes expanding his culinary empire, with his reintroducing of the beloved and now revamped Val+Tino in Fort Lauderdale.
Local Ingredients and Flavors
A commitment to local ingredients is evident in every dish, from fresh produce to unique grits sourced from Jacksonville. This dedication to quality shines through in every bite.

A Passion for Hospitality
Linder's dedication to hospitality is embedded in South Bar & Kitchen's core values—SFL: Service, Food, Location. This mantra ensures that guests receive exceptional service alongside delectable Southern fare in a fantastic location.
